Blimey. David O’Leary says – at last – ‘I’m happy to be the manager of this football club’.

Now I could be wrong, but his comments to the press in recent weeks seem to have changed dramatically. Has someone advised him or has he realised that the fans were wanting some positive talk – as well as the justified attacks on the way his job has been hampered by Doug Ellis?

Certainly seems we are getting a far more up-beat manager at the moment and with the change in results, maybe he is starting to enjoy his time at Villa?

The former Leeds United manager has also as good as ruled himself out of a move to Newcastle saying:

‘I think everyone will be linked with it at sometime and I’m just glad I’m not being linked with the England job. I’m sure everyone will have their spin doctors out but I’m staying out of it. ‘I’m happy to be the manager of this football club until I’m told otherwise and when that happens I’ll get a job somewhere else.’

However that hasn’t stopped the bookies slashing his odds, something that happened 18 months ago when he was linked to the job before Graeme Souness made the shock move from Blackburn Rovers. O’Leary’s odds were as high as 33/1 this time round, but the odds have gone as low as 6/1 following a sudden influx of bets for him. Glenn Hoddle was also linked but Newcastle have denied the former England boss is about to be appointed.

O’Leary is currently 13/1 to join the St James Park outfit.
