David O’Leary has thanked the fans for the support they gave the team today in the 3-1 victory over Blues. I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of saying that, the 3-1 victory over the Blues!

He told the official site after the 3-1 victory over the Blues: ‘I was delighted for the fans, delighted for the players and for everyone associated with the club. Villa Park was absolutely rocking today and seeing what can be done makes me all the more determined to be the man to put things right here.’

It was certainly the first time O’Leary has seen the Holte End in full voice since his arrival 3 seasons ago, he added:
‘I was proud of the players. They rose above the physical battle and played a bit of football today. We ran out deserved winners.’

He was also surprised at the height that Cahill jumped to score the second goal admitting in the Sky interview after the game that not only had he never scored a goal like that but that he would never have been able to jump so high!!

He finished saying: ‘Hopefully now we can stop looking over our shoulders and concentrate on finishing as high as possible.’

  • Got to be the best atmosphere we’ve had at Villa Park for 3-4 seasons? Can’t think of many better that is for sure.

  • Fans were absoloutley fantastic, the point where 3 stands were singing stand up if you hate the blues was amazing.

  • “good win for you today, glad you are safe, dont know what next season will bring? you looked a very mediocre side today, struggling in confidence and ideas . you need to buy well in the summer if you are to improve- good luck

  • cant believe you have been in that kind of trouble all season! still start again next season, and at least you`ve pretty much put birmingham down!

  • Sometimes you have to wonder if it really needs you to be in the ***** before the hidden feelings come out and Oleary needs to realise that a lot of Villa fans will put up with it until they CAN TAKE NO MORE

  • Tremendous atmosphere, and the volume of noise created by three sides of the ground in support of the claret and blues was unbelievable. second to none. That was the Holte as you remember it back in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.

  • The best atmosphere since Ellis ripped the heart out of the club when he sacked Big Ron for finishing 2nd to Manure and beating them in the Cup.
