Don’t know about you, but these quotes from Olof Mellberg seem to be suggesting he’ll most likely not be sticking around once the season is over.

Mellberg can leave on a free in the summer and has already been linked to several top European sides including Juventus – where Sven-Goran Eriksson, who should mind his own bloody business, recommending him.

Mellberg said in an interview with the Birmingham Mail that talks are on hold for now and he hopes that doesn’t mean the Villa fans will question his loyalty after playing his best years at the club.

‘I have always given 100 per cent for Villa. I have played almost every game, every season and been really happy. They have been the best footballing years of my career. Santander were a good side then we got relegated the last season I was there, so it was great coming to Villa. They had had an interest for quite a long time, so there was never any doubt in my mind about playing for them and there hasn’t been for all these years. It has been great and hopefully the fans feel the same.’

‘I’ve got to take a little time and keep the door open in order to make the right decision. We will see what happens. We have had good communications with the club and my agent has spoken to them as well. There hasn’t been any problem so far. It is just exactly as the manager said last week: we will leave it for a bit and then get back to it.’

He also says despite the talk of a move, he is 100% focussed on Villa, especially now the Euro qualifiers are over with success for Sweden.

Just can’t see him staying myself, if the club and him really wanted to do a deal, surely it would have been tied up by now, not leaving it to drift so he can talk to others in January?
