Villa defender Olof Mellberg last night laughed off suggestions that Sweden had been de-railed after drawing with Trinidad & Tobago in their World Cup opener.

The Sweden captain said: ‘It was a very frustrating evening for us. We created more chances, kept the ball more but for some reason it did not want to go into the net for us. Now with a draw in this first game we will have to double our efforts and try to get maximum points from our next two matches. It won’t be easy, but we are still very much alive.’

Sweden play Paraguay on Thursday and England on June 20.
