Martin O’Neill believes James Milner will still give his all if he ends up staying with Villa.

O’Neill, said following our 2-1 friendly win at Walsall: ‘There is no question that James Milner will continue to give his best if the deal doesn’t go through.’

The comments follow ‘amicable’ talks at Bodymoor Heath on Tuesday, hours before the Walsall friendly in which Milner did not play.

O’Neill reminded us that it is Villa owner Randy Lerner will ultimately make the decision on Milner’s future – ‘I think the owner puts a price on players. Of course, he will have an idea on the price.

‘Negotiations are being conducted by the Villa chief executive and the owner and I will be guided by them.’

Milner will be part of O’Neill’s side thats set to compete in the Guadiana Cup against Benfica and Feyenoord this week.

O’Neill added: ‘James loves playing and last season played when others wouldn’t.

‘That is why I have no concern in regard to his character and involvement with Villa.’

Not too sure what that means, ‘played when others wouldn’t’ and don’t really have the energy to try to read anything into it.

Seems to me there is definately a hint within O’Neill’s words that Milner might stay. We will all know soon enough though, with only about 4 weeks left of the window.
