Martin O’Neill says an FA Cup win for Villa is long overdue and says the ‘ache’ amongst the fans is tangible!
The Villa boss said on the official site: ‘There is an ache with supporters that they have not contested more finals and semi-finals. They also probably feel they should have won it at least a couple more times since that victory in 1957. It is surprising, I will admit. The only time they have reached the final since 1957 was in 2000. The record has not been great and since I have arrived as manager, I certainly haven’t enhanced it.’
He says of today’s clash with Everton we are more than capable of coming out the victors if we play well adding, ‘The FA Cup is a very special competition – it is terrific. It is something I have been unable to win in my managerial and playing career. So it is coveted – no doubt about that.’
The draw for the 1/4 finals will take place at 18:30 tonight:
