Martin O’Neill said after the 3-1 loss to Manchester City: ‘We were slow out of the blocks and that proved costly’ as Villa lost their first home game of the season.

‘We made a poor start and let Manchester City dictate things in the first-half. We gave them too much room and conceded two sloppy goals. You can have poor spells in any game and you always hope you won’t be punished for them. But we were tonight and Manchester City got two goals when they were well on top. I still always thought there was a chance we could claw our way back into it ad we galvanised ourselves at half-time.’

‘Stuart Taylor made a terrific double save to keep us in it and then Gavin gave us a bit of hope with a great goal. We had a chance then and pushed on looking for a second. There’s always a chance when you do that, that you’ll be caught on the break and that’s exactly what happened.’

‘Overall we can have no complaints tonight. I’m not happy with the manner of the defeat, but what matters now is how we respond to this. We go again on Saturday and we have to quickly lift ourselves for another very tough game at Portsmouth.’

Too right he wasn’t happy, sitting by the bench you get to see the managers reaction and you could see that the manner of the loss hurt him and his backroom staff. Psycho on the other hand was so happy he had a little cuddle with the linesman….. well, takes all sorts I suppose!
