According to Ajansspor, Aston Villa are interested in signing Islam Slimani in January. The Leicester City striker is currently out on loan at Fenerbahce but has struggled for form at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium and could return early from his stint in Turkey. If his loan was cancelled, he’d be free to move elsewhere and Villa are reportedly trying to take advantage.

Tammy Abraham is first-choice in attack under Dean Smith, with Jonathan Kodjia providing backup for the in-form centre-forward, but Villa don’t have a third option up front which might be why they looking at Slimani. The 30-year-old hasn’t been in the best form, scoring just one goal in 14 Super Lig games this season, so he may not be the best player for Smith to sign.

If hard to see Fenerbahce cancelling his loan move and then Slimani picking Villa of all clubs to join for the remainder of the campaign. He wouldn’t come cheap either, with Silly Season revealing that Slimani earns around £80,000 per week at Leicester. If Gary Cahill was deemed too expensive to sign on the short-term, Slimani will also be avoided.
