With Ahmed Elmohamady expected to replace the injured Alan Hutton at right-back ahead of Aston Villa’s meeting with Derby County, Albert Adomah could start on the vacated right-wing. The 31-year-old impressed in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Stoke City, scoring the equaliser after coming off the bench, which could see him return to the starting lineup.

Adomah has been a regular under Dean Smith, but he’s struggled for form this season. The Ghanaian international has made 24 Championship appearances but recently lost his place in the side as a result of his lack of output. Prior to the Stoke stalemate, Adomah hadn’t scored a goal all season and made only one assist since August.

The winger’s work-rate led to him being continually selected, however, with Adomah making 10 tackles in his last five outings before Saturday. But he offered little going forward, creating just one chance in his last six appearances, which forced Smith to make a change. Elmohamady was given a chance on the wing but will now be needed at the back so the position is vacant again.

Andre Green is in contention, but the 20-year-old has only racked up 163 minutes of Championship football in 2019 so he might be overlooked against Derby.
