We clear the decks of the old then bring the old back in. Hurrah! (Caveat. I do like Kevin Phillips).

Kevin Phillips has agreed to join Villa and is currently having a medical. The 32 year old former Watford, Sunderland and Southampton player will sign a two year deal.

He will join Aaron Hughes, Patrik Berger and Stuart Taylor as new signings. The fans can hardly contain their excitement at the fact Villa are once again buying world class players at the peak of their careers

David O’Leary today continued his efforts to bolster the Villa squad as striker Kevin Phillips agreed to become the fourth signing of the summer (subject to a medical). The 32-year-old former Sunderland and Southampton man will put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal. He will join Patrik Berger, Aaron Hughes and Stuart Taylor as O’Leary strengthens the playing staff ahead of his third season at the helm. Phillips, who was a Villa target in the January transfer window, will join former Sunderland team mates Thomas Sorensen and Gavin McCann for pre-season training next week.

Phillips scoring record stands as:
