Martin O’Neill has confirmed that Stiliyan Petrov dislocated his shoulder in the game against Atlante and admitted that the injury is a concern.

Despite Petrov feeling better after the match, it’s unsure if he has suffered any long lasting damage so the club at this point are unable to gauge when he may be back.

Speaking on the official site O’Neill said:

‘Stiliyan dislocated his shoulder. Roddy, the doctor, put it back immediately. He is feeling a little better but we don’t know just at this moment how much damage he has done.

‘It is obviously the low point of the night. But we don’t know the extent of the problem – we will find out over the next couple of days to see how it settles down.

‘We just don’t know. But it is a concern to us.’

The last thing we needed was to lose an influential player in a pointless friendly, but the game against Atlante seemed full of pointless moments.

But maybe that’s better served in the Verdict.
