Aston Villa’s summer chase for Egyptian international winger Mahmoud Trezeguet was a bit of a saga given the contradictory press reports and rehashes surrounding our chase for the 24-year-old.
Head coach Dean Smith named our new arrival in the starting lineup for the Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur and he was pretty impressive during his hour on the pitch in all honestly. Lively, plenty of running and some good moments of technique as well as we almost pulled off a shock result in London.
Given the reports of his 11million Euro fee for us, his showing at the weekend does imply that we may well have signed a bit of a bargain here as he didn’t look out of place against the experienced Danny Rose.
Plenty of fans reacted to his performance on social media, and it seems that everyone is in agreement when it came to how we liked what we saw. Once he settles properly, he’s definitely one to watch.
There was a noticeable difference after he came off

So we can all agree that Engels and Mings will be quality for Villa this year after today’s performance. Also, Trezeguet looked dangerous every time he was on the ball. And, well, McGinn is just McGinn, always ????. #AVFC #UTV

Trezeguet I knew nothing about til he was rumoured to be signing. Devoured all I could. He didn't disappoint. Engels was fearless. McGinn was too. Taylor shocked me. He's obviously repaying Deano's encouragement. The lads had fire in their bellies today. Down to Smith no doubt.

Engels and mings both look like they will have a good partnership both played well today and give Wesley time he will come good and trezeguet looked like our biggest threat #AVFC

Trezeguet 7/10
Looks very promising, unfortunate with the miss in the first half, something maybe Dean or John can work on with him because he is a great player.#avfc— VillaTilIDie82 (@VILLATILIDIE82) August 10, 2019
Final thought on today:
Trezeguet is going to be a massive handful and can see him getting many goals.
Feel safe with Heaton, Engels and Mings at the back.
Would like to see Guilbert, Nakamba and Targett against Bournemouth. #avfc

Agree with the majority of this. Trezeguet was outstanding and probably didn’t deserve to be subbed off and when spurs brought Eriksen on that’s what changed the game. #AVFC #UTV https://t.co/ZMk4S7Mafr

for me trezeguet showed his class today, I can’t help but think he was worlds above Jota… though that being said, I do think he makes a very strong sub. but after today’s performance trezeguet gets the start, no question. #avfc #utv ????????
