With plenty of justified criticism flying around when it comes to Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce, it’s only fair to point out a success.
Rotherham saw an improved, albeit not perfect, performance and we took all three points to lift ourselves into the Play-Off spots and give a far greater reflection on the Championship table.
Despite woeful draws of late, we are only five points off Leeds United in top spot so there’s some reason to hold onto hope.
One of those reasons is summer arrival John McGinn. A snip from Hibernian at a reported £2.75million as from my memory there’s only been one game where he was below par and I think I only remember that because of the overreaction when it simply looked like a bad day from him amongst ten other bad days.
Thought Hourihane was just as good myself.

Clean sheet, 3 points, what more can you ask for, 4-4-2 looked good 1st half should of been out of sight! Super John McGinn what a player he’s turning out to be! #avfc pic.twitter.com/LMgX7rw26L

3 points better off than last season after 8 games and loads more to come from the team , Tammy is ????. #avfc #utv McGinn could be one of the best midfielders in a long time at villa

Nyland needs to improve with crosses and his distribution.
Elmohamody played solid.
Jedinak had a blinder.
Chester looked back at his best.
Hourihane/McGinn midfield worked their socks off.
Grealish needs to shoot more.
Abraham and Kodjia looked superb #avfc— AVFCchats ???????? (@AVFCchats) September 18, 2018
Unpopular opinion but Mcginn makes Grealish look basic, that guy is class x #avfc

Still not as good of a performance as we should be putting in. But an improvement on recent games, finally a clean sheet, good to see Bolasie and Abraham getting their first goals. Also, a standard John McGinn is great mention #AVFC pic.twitter.com/KHvtFLiyD1

Goalscorers naturally deserve plaudits, but for me McGinn was the standout performer of the night and arguably the season so far. Superb talent on our hands with him. #AVFC #PartOfThePride

He was back to his best on Tuesday evening though and as the above social media comments imply, it’s not our just our Forum who appreciated his efforts on the night.
Amazing what a win can do for confidence and perspective!
