Owen No Go?

The official site have a rather brief statement without quotes (I assume because Martin O’Neill is still on his holidays maybe?) denying that Villa are about to sign Michael Owen.

Reports today had suggested we’d offered him a two-year deal.

Apparently not!

  • Reading between the lines he doesn’t seem to have completely dimissed the sign of Owen but saying there is no truth in the speculation whatsoever. The train of thought I’m tending to lead with is that maybe we are negotiating with Owen and he ‘representatives’. Who knows but if Moyes also sees getting some return from signing Owen, I’d rather we beat them to the coup!

  • martin oneil has cleverly dismissed the speculatin but not the signing of owen i think he defo sign soon

  • God me spel!ng is pour – shuld realy prof read these posts bfore submitin! Apologies!

  • Would just like to point out that Owen’s Newcastle contract doesn’t expire until the 31st of June. I dont know if this has an affect on announcing the possible signing of the player. What it does mean though is that if he does sign we’ll be paying his £55k a week wages (or whatever it maybe) from the 1st July…

  • I heard that Owen had a medical and passed. This has obviously casued all the rumours about 2 year contract etc. However since then the club doctor has been sacked for giving a positve assessment on an out and out crock!!! OK the more astute of you may have deduced I was joking, Bag him!!

  • Willowavfc, I was just joking about the club doctor being a load of crap. IMO, though this deal was done in january, we are just waiting for the 1st July so we do not waste £200k on wages whilst he is still employed by Newcastle. Problem is, I’m an optimist who thinks Barry went to Citeh to derail their challenge!

  • Am I the only one that finds this a little odd or suspicious even? Since when did the club start commenting on players that we are NOT going to sign? OK, I understand in the case of the defender, we aknowledged interest and then decideded against it but in Owen’s case it seems a little odd. Are we going to deny every newspaper link and rumour throughout the summer or is there more to this than meets the eye? In secret talks perhaps?

  • yea your right but he has been linked with that many clubs and so many Villa fans think we are going to sign him, MON probably thinks it would be better to tell the Villa fans that Owen is not goin to sign, (at least not now anyway)
