After rediscovering some kind of form, Petrov has ended up missing the last two games after suffering a hamstring injury during the defeat against Arsenal.

Speaking to the Birmingham Post, Petrov said:

“I did my first session yesterday and it felt all right. I`d been working with the physios for the last week so this was the first chance to test it out.

“But it felt OK and we will see where we are at the end of the week when I`ve had a full week`s training.

“I will train again tomorrow and we will see where we are. It was only a strain and after the scan, the Manchester City game was always my target and that hasn`t changed.

“I think if I can get a full week`s training I will be fit and then we will see what the manager wants to do.

“I`m not bothered about who people think should be in the team – the manager will pick the team and as long as I`m fit and can make myself available, that`s my main concern this week.

“Now we`re around Christmas and the new year, there are a lot of games and I think after this period, we will see where our true position is.

“We`re looking to show our capabilities. We showed before we can win four games in a row but good teams go six to 10 games unbeaten and that`s what we have to look to be doing.”
