Stiliyan Petrov has admitted the loss to Spurs seriously took the shine off his return to action but he wants the team to be far more clinical in front of goal.

Speaking on the Official Site Petrov talked about his disappointment at not taking any points from the game given the number of chances we created.

‘I’m glad to be back but it is a disappointing result especially after the way the boys played in the first half. We got plenty of chances, put pressure on them, and then all of a sudden we see the ball in the back of our net. It was the same story in the second half.’

Petrov argues we are creating more than enough chances to win games, but weak and often amatuerish defending is costing us, especially as we are struggling to put the chances we create away.

‘We scored and we still had chances to equilise but it seems like we need to be more clinical and we need to start to win games – that is what matters to us at the moment.’

It would certainly be a big boost if we could get back to winning ways given the easy opposition we face off against next (cough) but we are playing too many games where we could have put a hat-full in the goal but end up walking away without a point.

Houllier has said that a striker isn’t necessarily his main aim for any moves we may get in January, and whilst Gabby is still to regain full fitness and sharpness and although Delfouneso is looking brighter in every chance he has I would say it remains abundantly clear the single most important signing we could make in January would be an experienced, and consistently reliable striker to put at least a few of the dozen or more chances we create away.
