Martin O’Neill has admitted that Villa have bid for Celtic midfielder Stilian Petrov.

‘We offered £5m before and they turned us down and asked for £7m. We thought we’d offered a fair price. We are going to look at the situation in the next 48 hours. We would love to have him. He’s a superb player.’

O’Neill could now face competition from Portsmouth who are also said to be preparing a bid.

O’Neill continued ‘It is not the biggest squad. We have a lot of very good players at this club and I’m going to supplement them if I can but that might be easier said than done. The takeover bid has been accepted and at some stage it will happen but it might not happen in time. (for the transfer window) It is a genuine concern but I am not in control of that. I would have loved to postpone the start of the season for three weeks or postpone the transfer deadline.’

According to ICbrum, Baros is still a target for Hamburg, Phillips could leave for Sunderland and Mathieu Berson is wanted by Levante.

  • Papers up here were quoting £10 million but he isn’t worth that, he isn’t worth £5 million to be honest, I mean he’s good but he’s not THAT good. I’d say he is worth around £3 – £4 million. Celtic are just greedy.

  • Thats funny, according to the BBC that is exactly the same as what Milan Mandaric said.

“Aston Villa had also made an approach to Celtic for the Bulgarian’s services but Mandaric seems set to up the ante.

He said: “We offered £5m before and they

  • I do not think he is worth 7m saw him play for Bulgaria last week and he was just ok, 5m is about right but MOL knows what he is about.

  • Durh Jon – you’ve misread the Mail’s article, it was MANDARIC that said that, not God.
In other news, Didier Agathe, the multi award winning winger / full back is now in training at Bodymoor Heath…expected to be handed a one year deal later this week.

  • Nah, the best he could come up with at Leciester was 2 League Cups, consistent top 10 finishes (always beating us I might add), and he didn’t do much at Celtic either did he? 🙂 Trust him…

  • Malbranque is in need of surgury for an injury but he wont agree to it with Fulham, they are such drama queens. Good player though.

  • malbranque wasts more than 60k per week the greedy mo-fo, agathe has played euopean football and we need right midfielder so for a free transfer we certainly cant prefer him over de la cruz anyday

  • I’m fully prepared to trust in MON. Whoever he brings in, and at what price will be down to him, and fine by me. MOL, Villain Of The North, is quite obviously Martin O’Leary, who in case you weren’t aware is assistant to our new boss DON, David O’Neill.

  • We’ve got a small squad and can’t improve it to January. We need some cover on the right and Agatha can obviously do a job for a few months, and he’s cheap. I like the attitude coming through which suggests fans are willing to trust MON, which is what w

  • Stan Petrov would walk into Villa and best by far there best player… considering your chasing more £6m for Gareth Barry then a guy who’s actually won things with his club and captained his country must be worth more!?

  • Thanks for the explaination glensider, so what you’re saying is, blah blah blah blah blah….. :o) Micky-bhoy, not quite sure I follow your logic, as your statement can be applied to other players but I wouldn’t say that thay are better than other playe

  • and if barry ever went down to scotland which he never will,he would be one of the best,if not the best player down there.pure quality, think you are under rating him slightly! who’s top of league down there now anyway? lol
