Petrov Set to Sign On?

Stiliyan Petrov has hinted that he is set to sign a new contract according to Setanta.

The Bulgarian midfielder has enjoyed a great season of late, having had a couple of years lacking any real input into the Villa team. The club began talks late last month, and the 29-year old ex-celtic player seems happy that he`ll stay on. Speaking to the Brum Mail he said:

“They [agent and club] met the other week and things are in progress, so we`ll see what happens.”

“I`ve always been optimistic. Don`t forget I`ve still got another year to go and a lot of things can happen. I`ll be happy to sign it, but you never know, that`s football.

“It`s up to the club to decide how they want to move forward. Is it going to be with me or without me? I`m just here to do my job.

“I`ll speak with Villa and hope we can come to an agreement.”
