Just a brief update on the Stiliyan Petrov injury.

As feared, the injury is worse than first anticipated and he will have to have the injured knee operated on.

He’ll be out for at least two months.

Gerard Houllier told the official site:

‘Unfortunately I think we have lost Stiliyan Petrov for maybe at least two months. We will see if he needs an operation or not – we will know that by the middle of the week.’

‘It is a shame because he was getting up to a good level. It was a very unfortunate accident.’

I’m told it could be the lateral ligament he’s torn, hopefully not as that could mean 3-4 months out.
