Niall Quinn is hoping to be informed on Monday whether Villa will allow Kevin Phillips move back to Wearside to join up with his old Black Cats strike partner.

Phillips scored 132 goals in 236 games for Sunderland and the chairman/manager Quinn wants the Villa striker to return. Quinn told their official site:

‘We’re led to believe from Villa we’ll get a decision about Kevin’s future on Monday. There could be a bit of movement, we’re working ever so hard.’

  • From what I’m led to believe Sunderland have offered over £1million for Phillips. At is age we’d be silly not to let him go.

  • I cannot see MON having a problem letting Phillips go, he my have that goal touch but injuries and age are against him. I would hope to see some activity in the reansfer market this week just to freshen up the squad.
Only seven days to go, i can’t wait.

  • Phillips is well past his best he has nothing to offer us this season, we signed him 6 years to late!!

  • Think Phillips could still do a job for us. Was unfortunate to pick up the injuries last year. Think he would of scored a fair few otherwise.

  • I think hes worth keeping but at the same time we could let him go. And he is ageing and weve got Moore and Agbonlahor and well be lucky if we get more than 1 million for him, and i think Sunderland would benefit more from him as they sentimentally value

  • I dare say that a move up to Sunderland appeals to him greatly. I think that we can afford to let him go, certainly if the fee agreed is indeed 1m.
