David O’Leary has admitted that striker Kevin Phillips will be considered for Saturday’s crunch FA Cup fourth-round home game against Port Vale.

Phillips, who has been out of contention with an ankle injury for nearly two months, in which time he required surgery, played 70 minutes for the reserves last Tuesday and managed to score. He will have another run out against Man City reserves this Tuesday and if he comes through that ok, will be considered for the cup tie.

He was greatly missed in our 1-0 win over Hull, his fighting capabilities were exactly what we needed.

O’Leary told the official site: ‘The plan is for Kevin to play 90 minutes for the reserves on Tuesday. If he comes through that with no reaction, then he will be available for Port Vale.’

O’Leary could have the rare luxury of having all four strikers available for selection. We are currently asking in our poll, who should play up front against Port Vale. At present 52% are saying Phillips and Baros. Why not have your say? Oh, and if you want to suggest a poll, use the link in the poll box to send your question along.

Meanwhile the new Aston Villa Mr Mean (!!), Gareth Barry, will miss the cup clash after picking up two yellow cards in the 0-0 game against Spurs. Barry had only just returned from a one match ban for picking up five yellow cards.
