The EFL have announced the Match Day officials that will take charge of Aston Villa’s Play-Off semi-final second leg against Middlesbrough this evening.

Steve Bruce’s side host Middlesbrough on Tuesday, May 15 for the game at Villa Park and the match commences at 7.45pm.

Referee: Mike Dean
Assistant Referees: Simon Long and Mark Scholes
Fourth Official: Paul Tierney

We now turn to Vital Villa’s resident refereeing expert sirdennis for his unique insight into the appointed Official.

sirdennis is surprisingly quiet when it comes to his thoughts on this appointment. I believe he’s been quietly seething since he first found out and it’s taking all his willpower to not explode.

Upon being asked for his thoughts, he replied.

If a picture paints a thousand words, for many of us those series of images are akin to giving a thousand monkeys access to a keyboard. Occasionally you might get a moment of sense out of them but for the rest of the time, the answer is ‘oh a monkey’s typed it’, much like ‘oh Mike Dean I guess’.

Thankfully we haven’t seen this ‘I’m a Star’ so far this season but 29 games have seen him show 107 yellow cards and four red cards. And, well, it’s Mike Dean – what else can you say?

I’m sure the EFL hate us!
