Ashley Young finally got his hands on the Barclays Premier League Player of the Month trophy this afternoon and immediately dedicated the award to Martin O’Neill.

By all accounts Young has been in impressive form this month and his growth and development shows no signs of slowing down.

Speaking on the official site, Young said:

‘The manager has been brilliant with me since I arrived at the club.

‘You just have to look at his track record and what he has done in his career.

‘He brought me to the club and I wanted to repay him. He’s been brilliant with me. Every player will say the same.

‘He knows each individual and what it takes to deal with them. He has dealt with me brilliantly.

‘I dedicate the award to him for pushing me in the right direction. He’s helped my game develop and I really appreciate it.

‘My main aim is doing well for the team and helping us climb that table.

‘But winning the award means a lot to me. It’s a big thing and shows that I have been doing something right on the pitch, which is great.’

If Young continues to develop at this pace, and continues to have such an impact on games it would be inconvievable to think he can’t go down in history as one of the select few who seem to dominate this award.
