Wow, a double poll whammy of results, life really is good isn’t it?

We asked how many more signings will Villa make?

33% said we’ll have three more.
25% voted two more players.
22% said four more players.
11% thought we’d have no new players.

That left 3% saying more than four including some loans and 6% saying just one.

We also asked should we sell Liam Ridgewell (who has now left for Birmingham City)

Not before we buy (48%)
No, good squad player (30%)
Yes, he isn’t the grade (15%)
Totally up to Martin O’Neill (6%)
No, he should be first team starter (1%)

Our latest polls, suggested by Peter Rollason, asks: Why has transfer activity so far this window yielded less players than expected ?

  • It’s a combination of an over inflated transfer market, and a reluctance to speculate to accumulate.

  • well the other problem is saying we have not got enough players in, this means clubs know we are keen to add for quality AND quantity; hence prices are sky rising, oddly we are quoted one price then the final value for purchase is far less i.e. Bellamy 7.5 not 11
the sad reality is that MON hasnt got his scouts into europe doing anything, hes fixated on buying here and its obvious with billionaire owners everywhere that prices are high hence teams go abroad and buy for cheaper Daniel Braaten is a bargain for 475k im bringing a friend to the Inter Game tomorrow i had promised that we’d have a better team out than when we faced Liverpool in that Dire draw and it looks like its not really moved forward, im glad to see Laursen back though he’s my fave defender at the club
Here’s hoping we win; if we do then perhaps people will ease up on MON but it might make him feel that we dont need to add players or he might do a MARLON on us again and buy ‘squad players’

  • i have just read the quote about brngin in new faces, if my math are corect that means 7 new players. Even as someone who likes to remain positve i was gettin slight concerned about the lack of signing. But that article by MON has put my mind at rest. st back the villa faithful and watch he new faces as they arrive. If MON i tellin s the factsi cat wait to see what avfc48has to say….

  • If MON does not want to pay over the odds for English based players fine but where the hell are the european players then?? Our chief euro scout should be sacked.

  • I remember O’Neil saying he wants to bring in few forign and premier league players as possible

  • It won’t be 7, less than half shipped out were even squad players so it’ll be 2 more with possibly a GK – three max.

  • I have been a villa fan for many many years i have also been in buisness for many years. and to be honest i would refuse to be ripped off also. Paying excessive transfer fees and wages for average players is a sure fire way of destroying moral and team spirit within the dressing room. Imagine for example paying 18 million for Defoe and paying him 70 +grand a week, and he flops score a handful of goals, Young or Gabby bang the goals in how do you think that would impact on them. Most fo us work in an envoiroment where we get paid paid a wage for the job we do. How would you feel if your employer bought in another person and paid them many times what hes paying you!!! i guess you would have your say!! I am totally behind MON and the way hes doing his buisness. hes waitin for the time to get tight for the seller. this creates a more pressurised market. You see some of these teams need to sell to buy. Thus making it a more realistic market. That is the stratergy of buisness.

  • As for Ridgewell, I am just annoyed and concerned that we have continued this annoying habit that we have of off-loading players before we have an adequate replacement in house.
How many new faces will arrive? Well after our lethargic efforts so far this summer, I’ll be happy to see just a top quality right back and a third ‘keeper come on board.

  • Lets wait and see glensider, you must remember we are like mushrooms kept in the dark and fed… well you know the rest. but not by the club. by the press. we are not priveliged to all the information if any. but we are fed copious amounts of speculation. all deisned to sell news papers. so take it all with an enourmous pinch of salt and trust the manager and board…

  • 11% believing that there will be no more new arrivals is rather a high percentage. Surprising.
