Manager Tim Sherwood’s pre Chelsea press conference has now taken place and the first pieces of news through concern our current injury situation.
The gaffer confirmed that Gabby Agbonlahor and Ciaran Clark have already been ruled out of the trip to Stamford Bridge as Gabby is still struggling with the injury he picked up that saw his substitution at half time in the Capital One Cup victory over Birmingham, and Clarkie hasn’t yet recovered from the calf injury that kept him out of the Stoke defeat.
Carlos Sanchez will also undergo a late fitness test as he has only just returned from international duty.
In quotes carried by the Official Site, Sherwood explained.
‘Gabby is not fit. Ciaran is still injured too. Carlos only came back last night. We will have to assess how he is. He’s fit but obviously will be very fatigued.’
With Jack Grealish being given somewhat of a mini pre season during the international break and Adama Traore being worked hard as well, Sherwood said he felt both players had really benefited from that – especially the two practice matches arranged.
‘There are a few players who missed pre-season – Jack Grealish, for instance. Adama has been out for a long period of time. We have used this international break to get them fit. We have had two games behind closed doors – they played in both. They have done very well.’
Centre half Jores Okore has also been making good progress, and Sherwood had words of praise for him even though he isn’t quite yet at the levels needed to come into first team contention again.
‘Jores is training a lot more now. But he’s not quite ready to play.’
