With plenty of praise doing the rounds amongst fans, players and those associated with Aston Villa in the press following our Championship Play-Off Final success over Derby County earlier this week, one man who stole the plaudits was the ever-reliable John McGinn.
The Scottish international has been a revelation all season and a worthy awards winner when it came to Player of the Year given his energy, effort and desire and he’s just one of those players where even when he’s not at his best, he still manages to impress.
With all thoughts slowly turning from celebrating to next season, Chief Executive Officer Christian Purslow was speaking to the Official Site recently, and he picked McGinn out as being the exact type of player we should be looking to sign in the future given his effort and attitude both on and off the pitch.

“John McGinn is the model signing for Aston Villa – age, hunger and the most important of the lot which is quality. He is an incredibly influential figure around the team. He exudes positivity and loves playing for our football club and that rubs off on other players. If we could find players of that ilk and profile with quality and character – that’s the perfect Aston Villa signing. We’ve (Dean Smith) both said recently that we thank Steve Bruce for that because he left us an absolute gem in that footballer.”
Few can deny he’s been an absolute bargain for the price we paid – £2.75million – and nobody is asking ‘who’ now, are they.
