Yannick Bolasie came away with a lot of praise from some supporters after Aston Villa beat Swansea City 1-0 on Boxing Day. The 29-year-old was handed his sixth consecutive start in the Championship and was heavily involved in the only goal of the game, laying the ball on for Alan Hutton’s cross to be met by Conor Hourihane.

Bolasie has made a total of 17 league appearances since joining on loan from Crystal Palace and has contributed five goals in his last eight. Against Swansea, the tricky winger made two chances, had three shots and had three successful dribbles.

He whipped in seven crosses on the day, making a total of 44 touches, and supporters on social media were happy with his performance. Bolasie has hit form for Dean Smith of late and once again showed why he continues to start ahead of Jonathan Kodjia and Albert Adomah.

Bolasie isn’t perfect, however. The 29-year-old can at times hold onto the ball far too long and relinquish possession, but he’s expert at beating his opponent in one-on-one situations and getting the ball into the box early. With Tammy Abraham being the recipient, he should enjoying having Bolasie out wide.
