Randy Lerner has said that he can’t see the Premiership clubs replicating the NFL experiment as the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins played at Wembley last week.

West Ham chairman Eggert Magnusson had suggested the Premiership should follow suit but thank goodness, our owner disagrees despite an obvious interest with the Cleveland Browns.

He said: ‘I wouldn’t have been volunteering the Browns for that match’ and adding on the possibility of Villa packing their bags for a game in America he added on avfc.co.uk ‘I don’t see it. I don’t think I’d be terribly comfortable with that. I think that you’re going from spreading the gospel to preaching – I think the gospel is spread quite well. You go to Villa Park, Goodison Park or St James’ Park and you have the environment and the surroundings. All of a sudden you take two teams, you don’t have the fans, you don’t have what is brought to the experience by those who have travelled or the home fans. I think you’re starting to dismantle things and I find that concerning.’

Nicely put! In my opinion it would be a massive step backwards for football to dismantle anymore of its fine traditions to suit global marketing! It is enough that we don’t get games on a Saturday at 3pm, let alone having to cross the Atlantic to see your team play!
