Reports in the Guardian today suggest that Randy Lerner is planning on taking the role of CEO at Villa following the departure of Richard FitzGerald last January and COO Michael Cunnah recently.

Apparently Randy will move to the midlands and take a hands on role at the club.

The article, by Stuart James astonvilla suggests the Villa owner might not give himself the title but will be taking on the day to day role. Good news for Villa, not sure how the Browns fans will view this though?!

The paper also suggests that Martin O’Neill will very much welcome this move as he is used to speaking directly to Randy on all team matters.

The report says Chains of command are about as popular with O’Neill as interviews for national team jobs, the Villa manager preferring to have the kind of control over footballing matters that Avram Grant’s replacement at Stamford Bridge will only be able to dream about. O’Neill likes to deal directly with the owner and no one else, something he made very clear recently when he pointed out that any talks about Gareth Barry’s future would be held with Lerner.

Not a major surprise this is it? Randy has always been the one responsible, with the manager, for transfers and dealings with Martin O’Neill which might part explain the departure of Richard FitzGerald as that is usually in the remit of the CEO.
