New Villa owner Randy Lerner has had a rare interview with Tom Withersap, sports writer for the Associated Press.

Within the article it stats that Randy, who took control of the Cleveland Browns over in 2002, has had an interest in buying a Premiership club since before taking the helm at the NFL club. With the Browns suffering a terrible season, questions have been raised about split loyalites following his purchase of Aston Villa. But Randy has quashed rumours he might sell:

‘I’m not selling the Cleveland Browns.’

When asked: What could change your mind?

He answered: ‘Nothing.’

On Villa he said:

‘It’s been everything and more than I could have hoped for. But I also know it has been a honeymoon of sorts, and we’ve got a lot of work to do. I’ve learned keep your mouth shut. Do it, talk about it later.’

On dual ownership he adds ‘As long as you deliver on the field, people will believe you can do both. If you can’t deliver on the field then there are going to be questions, it’s that simple.’

On Cleveland he said: ‘I don’t think I’ll ever leave. I love this place.’

On the criticism from Browns fans he said: ‘There’s a certain amount you just have to take on the chin and move on. It comes with the territory.’

Like it, do it, talk about it later.

Correction: ‘Ellis gave the club financial stability, but he stayed way too long and just wouldn’t spend any money on new players,’ quotes weren’t from Randy, they were from a random Villa fan within the article.

  • ‘Ellis gave the club financial stability, but he stayed way too long and just wouldn’t spend any money on new players” Wonder what bicycle Kick thinks of this little ditty.

  • If you look at the article in the forums col, you will see that, that is actually a quote from a Villa fan, not Randy.

  • Lets cut to the chase …..he hasn’t done anything yet …..not a critiscm just a fact…ok holte hotel , training facilities, all good stuff – but not the revolution we were after………but fairs fair…do it talk it about it after………lets hope hes talking in feb…..

  • qKing – the two things you’ve listed are two things more than Ellis has done in the last five years! Randy’s done as much as can be expected of him – rebuilding the hotel, improving Bodymoor Heath, inviting Ron back, listening to the fans, giving MoN the money for Petrov, Agathe and Sutton (not megabucks in terms of transfer fees, but you’ve got wages and signing on fees and bonuses to consider), and you can guarantee that he’ll stick his hand in his pocket as much as required in January. What was it Alan Partridge said? Evolution, not revolution!

  • he aint done anythng yet because he aint gone through 1 transfer window and off the transfer window he has done things like bodymoore

  • ^^^^^^^ What Ian says, to say he hasn’t done anything yet is mystifying to me, he is only just in and has set about so many changes already. Can’t be held responsible for transfer window meaning he’s not been able to fund new players, he was in after it shut. Don’t think he has put a foot wrong to date, hope that continues and we’ll all be very happy – won’t we?

  • qKing, with all due respect he’s only been at the helm for five minutes. What more could he have done?

  • I don’t think he could have done more – but lets not praise him until he does. Evolution not revolution – wasn’t that what Mark Ansell said (serious I think he did)

  • 18 games thats all, no transfer window yet, same squad as last season, spent most of the season near the top of the table……….
Yep nothing changed has it 🙂

  • Wonder how long it will be before the local press guys get their backs up because he wont talk to them. You can see it coming.
