As fans will know, earlier tonight CEO Paul Faulkner held another webchat where he answered the questions of the fans.

As ever, I’ll cherry pick some of the most interesting questions and the answers that were given.

With shirt prices and the regularity to which football clubs now change them, Faulkner confirmed that the deal with Macron states that we will introduce a new home and away strip every fresh season, however being mindful as to the cost of shirts, Villa have kept last season’s third strip live for this campaign and it will be worn in the West Ham game.

The club also plan for next season, to have our current away strip become our third kit to help extend the shelf life for fans.

There were expected questions about January and whether we intended to make any purchases, and the expected answer was given.

One interesting question asked what the club were doing to develop top players so we could shy away from large transfer fees. I’m not sure the two tally, as apart from Kozak and Benteke last season, we haven’t really spend big anyway.

But as is a new thing this season with Lambert wanted more cohesion between the various youth levels, and his plans in conjunction with the U21 set up to push players further under the EPP plans, Faulkner pointed out that our set up was ranked as the No 1 Academy in the whole country last season and of course fans will know we won the NextGen tournament last term as well.

Obviously the CEO doesn’t know if the changes introduced this season will have the desired effect in terms of bringing up younger players more acclimatised to the first team, but it’s a conscious effort and we’ve already seen a number of players head out for loan experience which I think everybody agrees is something we’ve never really done enough of in the past.

Well it interested me anyway!

The question of a contract extension for Paul Lambert was raised, and the answer was similar to the one given in the last webchat.

Also the departure of Christian Benteke was raised, and Faulkner answered simply that he’s three months into a new four year contract,
and it’s definitely not a foregone conclusion he will leave next summer.
