With news this week of a broken ankle for top scorer Jonathan Kodjia, his hopes of becoming Aston Villa’s first striker to 20 league goals since Peter Withe evaporate but sitting on 19 as his season ends early is still some achievement.
Our rising to £15million capture from Bristol City in August has had a fine debut year at Villa, playing 36 times for the club with a 19 goal return and he’s clearly been one of the high points in a disappointing year.
With some thought that maybe he was a one season wonder given his time at Ashton Gate – 20 goals returned in 48 starts and four substitute appearances – clearly that’s not the case and whilst he’ll miss the start of new year, hopefully the team will be performing and picking up wins in his absence.
In any event though, to celebrate his individual campaign in 2016/17, the club have produced a highlights reel of his 19 strikes starting with his debut goal against Brentford back in mid September and ending with his final strike of the year against Burton Albion.
Enjoy.
