With more transfer links that you can shake a stick at given the time of year and Aston Villa’s successful promotion back to the Premier League in 2018/19, one target went completely under the radar as we announced the capture of Club Brugge striker Wesley the other week and now apparently, we are tipped to go back for their Zimbabwe international midfielder, Marvelous Nakamba.

The report comes from outlet, the Chroncicle and whilst it’s probably easy content to link our record capture Wesley and suggest we’ll go back for a second player from the same club, whilst still being typical rumour mill fare in many ways, it does contain more details than is usual, so maybe worth keeping at the back of the head.

They state £20million would be enough to do a deal, but that Newcastle United and Watford have also previously shown an interest in him, but in their case, other deals have to go through first before they’ll make a firm approach.

Claiming that we are in pole position for his signature, they also reference the upcoming AFCON opener between Egypt and Zimbabwe where Nakamba could face off against Elmo.

For those that want to read them, they even quote a source discussing the deal, basically saying we wanted to tie the deal up now, but his parent club are hoping for some good international showings to push the interest in him up, as well as the price.

I imagine plenty will wonder if he’s a Kalvin Phillip’s option given our reported interest in him.
