A new day and a new January transfer rumour for Aston Villa fans to get their heads around – we’re now apparently tracking Sassuolo attacker Gregoire Defrel.
Whilst plenty of fans got excited about a possible bid being in for AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek, I imagine the reaction to the Defrel rumour will be far more grounded.
Mainly because he’s a 28-year-old who has only scored and assisted one apiece in eight games during the current 2019/20 Serie A campaign for his loan side, and he’s clearly fallen out of favour with Roma as he spent last season out with Sampdoria as well.
Having spent his whole career so far in Italy Soccerbase have him down as making 120 starts and 51 substitute showings, and he’s returned only 44 goals – so plenty will doubt whether the Frenchman has what it takes to adjust to the Premier League.
The Telegraph claimed we were also tracking him over the summer, but I’d be amazed if there was an ounce of truth to this one for a variety of reasons.
