Over the weekend it was claimed that Aston Villa would be in pole position to secure the permanent services of loanee Anwar El Ghazi, should we wish to keep him with us next season.
With Villa not yet knowing if we will be Championship or Premier League based for the 2019/20 campaign, the 23-year-old has received mixed reviews following his arrival back in August from Lille, but in more recent times we have seen better from him and in 33 appearances in total (27 starts) he’s contributed five goals and six assists in the league.
French outlet L’Equipe have claimed that despite his progress with us, Lille would prefer to offload him quickly this summer and with it believed that we already have a buy option in place, we naturally go to the top of the pile.
With a presumed figure of around £6million mentioned so Lille at least break even on the deal when he arrived from Ajax, there will be those in the fanbase who feel it would be a snip given how much he can develop more, but equally those who feel it’s too much based on the consistency he’s shown.
Ultimately it’s down to Dean Smith I guess.
