Report Names Price As Villa Continue To Be Linked With A Rumour Mill Favourite

|

Having linked with a possible move for Brentford striker Neal Maupay back in the January transfer window following head coach Dean Smith’s arrival at Aston Villa, it’s no surprise to see the media jumping back on the lazy speculation wagon and claiming he’s a target for this summer.

We’ve already seen the same with Yoann Barbet and only Smith, Suso and Christian Purslow will know our intentions here.

The Sun were the latest to rehash the rumours this week and claimed that we are preparing a £20million offer for the 22-year-old.

In short, it leans mostly on the fact we’re unlikely to get Tammy Abraham back from Chelsea and Smith having already got the best out of him at Griffin Park and there’s absolutely nothing new or concrete in their claims.

The fanbase seems naturally mixed with plenty loving the idea of bringing the Frenchman in and others not sure at that price, owing to the fact he’d also be adjusting to the Premier League. Some even say there’s better out there in terms of West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon whose believed to only have a £16.5million release fee.

Let alone the availability of the likes of Dwight Gayle.

It’s apples and pears though, both Gayle and Rondon have history of not performing in the Premier League, and we do still have Jonathan Kodjia to consider.

If we have an interest in Maupay, in Smith we trust. We may equally bring in someone nobody has heard of before that ticks the boxes.

No point getting too excited or angry at targets yet, let’s see what actually happens.
