Aston Villa’s second string will take on Manchester United’d reserves in the league play off final on May 3rd at Old Trafford.

The second string have already taken the Southern Title for the 3rd consecutive season and haven’t lost a single game in the process all season.

The Northern section of the league was down to the final day in effect between Liverpool and Man U, with Liverpool suffering a defeat by Everton to put Utd through.

The play off final will kick off at 3pm on the day.

Kevin MacDonald has obviously been quick to praise the lads especially as they have been a true second string and youth squad in reality. Very few of our accepted first teamers have ventured into the reserves this season short of the odd appearance for the likes of Bouma, NRC, Davies etc whilst returning from injury.

MacDonald believes the ‘togetherness’ of the lads was a deciding factor in their ‘tremendous success’.

Speaking to AVTV he said:

‘The camaraderie of this group has been tremendous. A lot of it started when 5 or 6 of them went with the gaffer to the Peace Cup, it sort of helped galvanise one or two of them that way.’

MacDonald explains that even though a few of the lads have travelled away on loan at various points in the season, they have remained in contact with the team and have even visited back to watch the games and support them on.

A fantastic show of solidarity in my opinion.

‘They’ve all done well and they’ve all improved in their own ways.’
