The international break is really starting to drag already, and the sooner the players are back fit and playing for us in the Championship the better.
It’s always a tense time when players go to represent their countries and the sooner it is over – particularly at this part of the campaign – the better.
One other thing that might cause a bit of tension, though, is the Birmingham Mail’s report that a number of our players are out of contract in the summer.
And, indeed, that includes Glenn Whelan who is not getting any younger.
Saying that, though, and despite some of the criticism he has had at times here, he has been excellent in recent weeks and a key part of our upturn in form.
He holds station whilst John McGinn and Jack Grealish go and cause havoc, whilst he also has a good understanding with Conor Hourihane when he plays.
Certainly, he is a veteran but he is a solid base that we can build on, and it might well be worthwhile us offering him a new deal after all for another year.
