The Man, the Legend that is Mr Johnny Baguette on our new arrival Richard Dunne:

Richard Dunne, so often City’s one man team during this decade’s darker days has signed for Aston Villa bringing to an end an era that assures him legendary status with The Blues…

The hapless Football Association finally confirmed all the paperwork was in order this lunchtime, bringing to a close Manchester City’s unprecedented transfer activity for the year.

Dunney endured the bad times and rode the waves of the good times at City since he signed for JR in 2000 from Everton. We moved home, swapped owners, divisions and managers and rediscovered top flight continuity yet throughout it all, Dunney was always there, very often the last man standing as the ceiling caved in around him. Towards the end of some seasons, without his heroics we would have been sure fire relegation certs.

Meanwhile Dunne has told the official site that he has moved to Villa because he believes we can be up there and challenging for the Champions League.

‘I’m delighted. It’s a great opportunity for me. Obviously Aston Villa have improved each season recently. Hopefully I can be part of a squad that can challenge for a Champions League spot.’ Adding, ‘I think with Aston Villa, with the experience they would have gained from last season – they went so close for so long at the top end and the manager has bought in some new players into the squad this year – maybe it might help us go that bit further.’

He also says he thought having come to Bodymoor Heath on Friday that the move would be done quicker, ‘I came on Friday and passed my medical and I thought it would be a straightforward day for me. I think there was just a lot of pressure on a lot of people with so many deals going through but I’m just really pleased that finally we have it all done.’
