A New Year and the same tosh headlines…well what did you expect I haven’t sobered up yet. In short, Dunney wants to be on the pitch for the next Cup win.

Speaking on the Official Site ahead of tonight’s clash with Blackburn Dunney explained that he’s fed up on not playing a part in Cup Semi’s and more importantly Cup Finals, as the ironic stat given all his years in the game, he hasn’t once appeared in the latter two stages of a Cup competition.

‘I’ve been to the quarter finals before and never the semis so it is a big deal for me.

‘If we can finish the season and we’ve done well in the league and we’ve got a trophy at the end of it, we can say it has been successful.’

Dunne continues to explain that almost every Premiership footballer thesedays is going to be financially set for life, but it’s only when they look at what they achieved, the medals, the moments money can’t buy that determine whether they had a fulfilling career or not.

‘Whether they are fulfilled career-wise is different and I think for players to feel fulfilled you have to have silverware and stuff to look back on.

‘That is where your memories are and that is what you can keep forever.’

You do certainly wonder if this is the year for us. By rights, although the clash against Blackburn isn’t going to be easy, we should have enough to see them off over the two games and in the FA Cup we have the plum tie against Brighton to look forward to.

But as I don’t want to omen us I’ll stop there and simply look forward to tonight.
