Skipper Micah Richards has given his thoughts ahead of the easy encounter against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday evening.

Caretaker gaffer Kevin MacDonald’s full pre match press conference details should be with us shortly, but for now we have the skipper’s words ahead of the game.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game, Richards explained.

‘We have to carry on putting in a big effort. If we continue that, I’m positive the results will come sooner rather than later. It often works out that when the first result arrives, it gives you a massive confidence boost to go and get another one. If you look at our fixture list, the games we have coming up in the next few weeks certainly aren’t getting any easier. But we will be relishing the challenge rather than approaching them with caution. We have got a tough run with Tottenham and Man City coming in quick succession but that’s the nature of the Barclays Premier League. That’s why we are footballers and we all want to play in the biggest games.’

Richards went on to say our form has been disappointing as we got off to a good start with the result against Bournemouth, and everybody hoped our performances would kick on from there but apart from flashes – Leicester mainly – that just hasn’t happened for us so far.

‘I think since then we could have picked up more points. There have been games where we have been in them and threw them away, matches we should have drawn and ended up losing. We don’t seem to be getting the rub of the green. We just need to stick together and work hard. We have to stay positive.’

With Tim Sherwood’s third person out on his ear, it’s almost time for a new manager when those shenanigans are completed by the board, and Richards said of the potential new gilet.

‘I will respect whoever comes in. I will give 100% – like all of the other lads here. It will be a fresh start for everyone. We will have to show the new manager what we can do. We will need to get going from the start. Let’s hope we can do that. We know how big this club is – and we want to see it rise up the table.’

Until then though – his thoughts on the big KMac daddy.

‘He’s Villa through and through. He’s been great since he’s come in. He knows so much about the club. He’s put on good training sessions. He’s good around the place. The lads want to give 100% for him. He’s got the club in his heart and he really wants us to do well. It would be nice to pick up some results under him until the new manager comes in.’

Richards went on to say that whilst Spurs’ threats are well known, he knows we have our own so it’s down to us to believe in ourselves and make something happen over the 90 minutes.

‘It’s always a tough place to go. They are confident. They won the last game 5-1 against Bournemouth. You know they’re capable of hurting you. But so are we! We have to believe. That’s the most important thing.’
