Robbie Keane Linked To Villa

Aston Villa are being linked with Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane according to the weekend press. The last link was to Jermain Defoe!

The News Of The World say Villa are preparing a £5million bid for the Republic of Ireland striker and say O’Neill has £20million to spend in January, no doubt a figure plucked out of thin air!

O’Neill tried to sign the 26-year-old when he was boss of Celtic and the press are just loving linking O’Neill to any player with any connection to the Hoops at all!

Keane has three years left on his deal at White Hart Lane.



Martin O’Neill mentioned no names but admitted in The People: ‘The squad needs strengthening. I just hope the fans will trust me to do it as best I can.’

O’Neill was asked about this at the Capital Gold forum and said he knew who he wanted but obviously didn’t want to name names as he’d get done for tapping up then! He was asked if the targets would ‘excite’ the Villa fans and again he didn’t want to make promises that he might not be able to keep but simply said ‘trust me’.

Robbie Keane would certainly bring some flair and imagination to the team and is scintillating to watch when on form, although I’m not sure he’d be the 20-goal-a-season striker we need? That said, as MON said himself, every club in the land wants what we need, an out and out goalscorer, so I guess we will just have to put our faith in what O’Neill and Randy can pull out of the bag!

He also repeated in the press about Hendrie, ‘Lee has Villa at heart. I have absolutely no intention of letting him go until he has his testimonial.’ With the fact his contract is up at the end of the season, that could mean his time will be up but who knows?
