Ron Vlaar has said he was disappointed to miss a large part of the season injured, and even when he did play, he feels he could’ve done better.

Is there anyone who disagrees?

Nope, right, so we’ll move on.

Mitigation where due, it was his first season in the country, in the league, it’s difficult to find your feet and any form when you spend most of the time on your backside recovering from injury AND when he was fit at the tail end of the season, defensively we did improve. Both in terms of stats, but physically on the pitch.

Hope, definitely.

Speaking to the Official Site the centre half said he was looking to make up for lost time and make the impression on fans he wanted to:

‘I’m 28 and it wasn’t an easy season and it was my first in the Premier League and at Aston Villa, but I could do better I think. I expect more from myself. When we have a new season, I think it’s going to be better.’

Vlaar continues to add that naturally he’s always looking for errors in his game, so he can improve and develop further as a player but looking at his words there does seem to be a genuine disappointment that he didn’t have the impact he wanted.

He’s not going anywhere, he could be a huge player for us next season and I doubt there’s anyone that doesn’t hope that happens…well, anyone of a Villa persuasion anyway!
