£6million summer signing Rudy Gestede has been named in the 37 man nomination short (?) list for the 2015 African Football of the Year Award.

With a return of 22 goals in 44 appearances for Blackburn Rovers last season prior to signing for Aston Villa, that form has earned him a place on the list and despite our own struggles so far this year a return of four goals this campaign will have certainly helped.

Gestede represents African nation Benin and takes his place amongst the eleven other English based players in total who made the shortlist.

They include last year’s winner Yaya Toure (Manchester City), Andre Ayew (Swansea), Christian Atsu (Bournemouth), Dieu Mbokani (Norwich), Mame Diouf (Stoke), Max Gradel (Bournemouth), Riyad Mahrez (Leicester), Sadio Mane (Southampton), Victor Wanyama (Southampton) and Yannick Bolasie (Crystal Palace).

Confederation Africaine De Football released the full list on Sunday.
