Sanitised Football?

Anyone else getting bored of the nanny state telling us what we can and can’t do?

I was threatened with eviction from Villa Park on Saturday.

What for? Fighting? Being racist? Being a thug? Being sexist or threatening?

Nope, rattling an advertising hoarding supporting the team! No …. SERIOUSLY!! I’ve checked the rules in my season ticket and I went out with my lawyer mate on the night. Neither could illustrate where it says ‘though shall not make a drumming noise with an advertising board’!!!!

The steward – a new one, the other ones I get on with really well – told me I couldn’t do it. I said I always did it and this is football not ballet.

I went off on one I must admit and did it all the more. He got up again and said if I didn’t stop he’d escort me out. I told him to go and get a few more stewards before attempting it! I then left it a while before calling the steward and pointing out a chap three rows behind me who was clapping ‘rather loudly’ and asked for him to be evicted!

The steward went all ‘Vicky Pollard’ on me then staring. WTF?

As I say, all the others around where I sit are great chaps (and one chappess) but I hope this plonker isn’t around me again, it’ll end in tears as I’ve always had a problem with pettiness and rules!

I know stewards have a tough job with some fans and whatever they say they get people arguing with them, but when you can’t make a bit of a noise trying to get behind the team, it is beyond belief, not as if Villa Park was exactly loud despite being a sell out was it?! Maybe in future we’ll all be asked not to sing? I must admit the regular stewards had a word with him at half time and told him not to be so officious but next game I might go down wrapped in cotton wool just in case I make a noise God forbid!

How sanitised is football going to become? They’ll be telling us we can’t call the ref a banker next, and what a banker yesterdays was!
