Pat Sheehan of The Sun repeats the rumour from earlier in the week that Martin O’Neill is considering a move for Portsmouth defender and ex Arsenal and Spurs man Sol Campbell. Apparently the 94-year-old former England defender (or should that read 34?) could be available on a free despite Pompey offering him a new deal on wages around £40 000 a week. Hmmm, not sure about this one, would we really go for another player so obviously at the end of their career?

Blimey, that is it. Oh well, lets start one ourselves then. I’ve heard from a great source that Villa will sign ……… (insert your own name) on Monday for a combined fee of ……….. (insert your own price) and ……….. (insert your own player) in part exchange. Easy this lark!

The rest really isn’t specifically Villa related, lets hope for a better rumour day tomorrow… in fact, sod that, lets hope for a better signing day!!!

The Daily Star say that Kevin Doyle will be sold for £6.5million by Reading next week and that the striker is currently deciding where his destination will be. Villa have been heavily linked but according to this report, we’ve not been in for him but Fulham, Bolton, Sunderland and Wolves are in the hunt.

The Daily Mirror say that Steve Bruce wants 25-year-old Spurs striker Darren Bent at Sunderland but is being put off by the massive £18million price being quoted. Only mention this one because we’ve been linked with Bent a few times… then again, I can’t think of many Spurs players we’ve not been linked with recently!

At least we do know that funds are in place as Randy Lerner once again assures fans that the club are ready to pounce! Randy Lerner ‘The Funds Are In Place’

  • I am in great fear of this Sol Cambell rumour being true. Although I dont know why I should be. He has played well at Portsmouth, presumeably why they are offering him a new contract. I think this will happen!

  • yeah, shows no need for panic just yet, not that many movements!

Ha, the words ‘great’ and ‘fear’ next to each other… don’t see that often enough in my opinion! lol

  • were linked with bringing geoff hurst out of retirement his magic up front could be just what we need to challenge for the league next year but hear that sol campbell wont be signed as hes too old!

  • bloody bored of paper talk already , it’s only June ! Please also sort this new look out . It looks like a child has cut up a jigsaw so it all fits into place . Too many ads . overstretched links etc . The have your say link , looks awful . sorry i am having a moan but it’s our site as well , i visit this everyday , surely you could of done better ?

  • Not really appropriate to air your views here mate!! Email Vital itself. In my opinion it is much better and Im sure many agree! A site like this must cost a bomb to maintain so fair enough to put ads – heres an idea – dont click on them!! If you dont like the paper talk or anything, dont read the papers or sites like this and either come back the day before kickoff to see how our squad looks or just stick to the official site!!

  • Cant say im pleased to see my early views coming true regarding more quality leaving than coming but MoN really needs to pull his finger out now.
Jasper this is about Villa not your personal preferances on how a website should look

  • We like the re-design to be fair, there are the same amount of adverts as there were before, we’ve got to pay our way and it is getting tougher with this recession. We aren’t a big money backed network like others and have got ourselves into the top 37 football sites world wide with minimum staff and no money basically.

  • Tske it you are 37th then!!! Haha – in all seriousness – my favourite!! Keep up the good work!!

  • 35th to be fair…! Well, last time I looked, it does go up and down, which is about the only thing in the Fear household that does! lol This site alone is in the 200 range, which for a single team site is good!

  • Cant see too much in the Sol Campbell rumours, not at thirty four years of age. Admittedly we need an experienced central defender, proven at the premiership level, but I cant for one minute believe that O’Neill would target Campbell. Still, stranger things have happened, and nothing really surprises me in this game anymore.
