Well, well. It is all very boring on the rumour front at the moment, although to be fair there seems to be little to no action anywhere at the moment in the transfer window.

Come on Villa, steal a march on the rest of them!

The Mirror say that Villa will bid £4million for Reading and Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle, who if memory serves me right, was also linked last January. Sunderland – who are reportedly giving Roy Keane £50million to spend this summer, are also interested. The 24-year-old scored six goals in 34 appearances this season and according to his Wikipedia entry (not always updated or reliable but a good rough guide I always find) he has scored 37 in 113 appearances since joining Reading in 2005 from Cork City. He also has five goals in 16 appearances for the Republic of Ireland.

Stoke City have apparently offered out of contract midfielder Patrik Berger a place in their newly promoted team. Would make sense for them to go for that sort of experience in the short term, which with his injury record, he will always be! Apparently he has been offered a 12-month contract with the Potters.

Villa were linked with 23-year-old Werder Bremen midfielder Diego this week, today, in the Daily Mail, he is being linked to Arsenal who would go after him if Alexander Hleb leaves.

The only other link of any interest (if you are still awake) is Boro boss Gareth Southgate is apparently looking at making a £5million bid for Newcastle winger James Milner. In a report in the Sun they say Middlesbrough will go for the former Villa loanee if he can’t keep Gary O’Neil (linked to Villa amongst others) at the club. Surely we should pop in and grab Milner if he is available?

There are a few links in the goalkeeper area but I’m going to do a separate article on that!

Oh, and there are more reports on Wilfred Bouma looking to extend his stay at Villa.
