Defender and summer signing Philippe Senderos has said that Villa have to build on the clean sheets we have kept so far in the league, and if we can keep stopping the opposition from scoring, then it gives the team every chance of picking up wins going forward.
Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game against Hull City tomorrow, Senderos said he felt he was building a great partnership with Ron Vlaar and both of them know they can only improve further in the coming weeks, so to have kept two clean sheets already in the league is a massive bonus for them.
‘Ron and I work hard in training and, as soon as we met up, we thought we could do something together. Every single game we are learning from each other. We will definitely develop our understanding even more in the more games we play together and we will get better hopefully, too, with the games coming.’
Senderos goes on to say that obviously there’s a lot of respect between them both and he’s striking up a good friendship with our skipper off the pitch as well which he feels is very important, and on that score he says everybody gets on well with each other which can only help the team spirit.
But he wasn’t going to take too much credit for the opening performance against Stoke, because whilst they both showed great signs of a working partnership on the pitch, Senderos was also quick to point to the efforts of the full backs, the goalkeeper and the midfielders for their efforts defensively as well, so it gives him a lot of hope moving forward that we can indeed keep far more clean sheets than we managed last season.
