Hibernian fans told us we were getting a little gem in midfielder John McGinn and with every passing performance, the 23-year-old’s stock continues to grow within the Aston Villa fanbase.
Whilst other things took the headlines from the midweek clash with Brentford, McGinn’s own showing received plenty of plaudits on social media.
The Scottish midfielder has had a good start to life with the club and in three appearances so far since his arrival, he’s already contributed two assists and he made his mark in the Brentford clash by winning the tackle that led to Jonathan Kodjia getting us back on level terms following their opening goal.
They might not be broadly similar players in terms of technique and style, but I can certainly see why one fan made the comment that he was our new Jame Milner – purely owing to his tenacity and effort.
I love McGinn and we’re 3 minutes in #avfc

There were plenty of other comments I could’ve picked out, as those were from the first half on its own and the game wasn’t finished at the halftime break and neither was McGinn, but he’s quickly becoming another clear positive this year and everyone hopes he can continue this form for the remainder of the season.
