Now tell me, does this sound like a player on the verge of transferring out of Villa Park?

Shaun Maloney, subject of much speculation this summer about wanting a return to Celtic due to homesickness, spoke to the Birmingham Mail of his relief at scoring against Fulham and adding to that tally with two great goals against Wrexham.

Hopefully the Scot will be able to kick on even further on Sunday as he’s surely done enough to earn a starting place against Chelsea?

Maloney told the Mail: ‘I felt relief more than anything. Hopefully I can kick on now. I didn’t have a great pre-season, even though the team did really well, but the goals have given me some confidence. The goal at Fulham gave me confidence going into the Wrexham match. I felt good going into that match and once I scored my first on Tuesday, I settled down and started playing better. The first was important and it’s always nice to double your individual tally.’

We’ve got a gem here, especially at just £1million, lets hope by January he is settled, happy and scoring regularly!

  • After those quotes, expect him to be leaving Birmingham on a plane bound for glasgow within the next 2 hours 😉

  • Pking, there’s the sticking point. They made a monumental error selling us the player in the first place. The ginger gonk could close the deal and is trying to get the Scotch press to rescue the situation.

  • Lets do ourselves a favour lads and stop posting about it…..I’ver been on the Celtic site and its all the usual crap about playing in the CL….being a bigger club and all that…..got nothing against Celtic myself personaly, but the Prem’s the place to be. If Platini gets his way and Rangers come storming back then they may not get in it so often any way…cause the champions qualify with the scottish cup winners getting the second slot….so it won’t be so easy then…..anyway they only just scraped in by the skin of their teeth this week against a very poor team…..I’ll put him down to start and score on Sunday….glaswegians…who’d have em’ eh ?

  • Not a chance. The boy’s just about finding his feet. Wouldn’t suprise me if he started on Sunday.

  • I seem to remember the the scottish press tried to unsettle Petrov not long after he signed.. Some may say they failed unfortunately. But i like him i think he just needs a break a scrappy goal or something. I seen his debut at West Ham last season. He was outstanding. You dont just lose class like that.

  • Agree guys. Petrov needs and deserves continued undivided support from each and every one of the supporters. He wont get it of course, because sadly the VP faithful love to hate their scapegoat. John Carew is lined up to be the next recipitant of the boo’s and jeers, you can see it coming.

  • Rumours suggest that Celtic did in fact come in with a late, late bid for Shaun Maloney, which sensibly and logically was turned down by the club, so obviously talk of a return to north of the border will continue to grow as the new year window approaches.
